I am the proud owner of a 1998 mystique. I called last week August the 10 or 11th to arrange for some work to be completed just prior to the end of my warranty. I was at 59, 900 km when I called and gave them the list of things that were wrong. They did not say don't drive the car over the 60, 000 mark or your warranty would be null and void they just said bring it in on Monday August the 14 and they would take care of everything.
I went away for the weekend and went over the 60, 000 mark.
Well my first complaint was of the loss of power steering during heavy rain fall which I can verify can be quite thrilling. There answer to my problem was I could purchase an after market device that would prevent this in the future it would only cost me $100.00 because I was smart enough to buy the Ford ESP premium care service contract for $1500.00. When I questioned them about the design flaw their response was this only happens when you go through deeper water. I enquired how does one decide how deep the water on the highway may be. My next question was if I refused to pay to have this device installed who would be responsible for the possible damage as the result of an accident. They would not even answer my question. My next problem was a leaking light assemby for the rear lic plate. Apparently the seal is gone and it will be $ 465.00 to replace. They admitted that it would have been covered under my factory warranty however, I was now at 61145 km therefore it was my responsibility. Of course this is also one of the exceptions on the extended car warranty. Even though they knew in advance of the problem they must have repeated to me five times your warranty is up do you want us to fix it or not. I called the consumer department at FORD of CANADA 1-800-565-3673 and got the save response. If anyone has a practical solution for me or others please feel free to send them along I would appreciate any advice.
