I would like to notify all that plan to buy a Ford Truck (SUV) that the radio display may lose power leaving you with guessing what radio station or cd you are on.
I own a 2000 Ford Explorer having bought it as a preowned vehicle and after having it for about 2 years the radio display stopped functioning. I thought of replacing it however the cost is quite discouraging. Between $300.00 - $600.00.
I checked the internet and it appears that this is quite a common problem with Fords with many postings available. I believe that only a small percentage of people with the problem would actually post their concern.
I contacted Ford Canada via 1-800-565-3673 and enquired as to a recall due to the large amount of postings implying this to be a wide spread problem. The complaint handler was very pleasant however pleasantly advised me that she was unaware of the problem and that should they receive enough complaints Ford would possibly issue a recall.
If purchasing a Ford Vehicle I would caution people to obtain some kind of written lifetime warranty on the radio display. It is not only common on 2000's but on models 1998 to present.
