Went in to buy Coke Zero and Doritos. She offered cash back, I said sure. Cash back was for $20. My neighbourhood convenient store, I go all the time. I signed the receipt and left without getting my cash back. I went back to ask her to reconcile her register (balance cash/credit/debit vs sales) and she could not. Why, because she does declare most of her cash transactions, and therefore does not have record keeping. She doesn't need to declare cash transactions to government to pay taxes if there is no record of it. She said she gave it to me, but does not keep records to actually prove it. And this is small store, she would of had no more then $200 tops in transactions. They don't open until 10am, and they close early. The neighbourhood is absolutely dead during the day. My transaction was at 12:41pm.
Also, her merchant receipt has an incorrect business name, no business address, no website, and no HST (tax) number. The merchant service provider says on the receipt's footer "signature not required." However, she asked me to sign and I did.
Just another bad deal and customer who has no power. Business as usual I suppose.
