I asked the sales person if there was a contract or if I could cancel at any time because there was the possibility I might be moving. He said there was no contract I was just signing an agreement to get a better price every month. This was why I agreed to have a Pinnacle alarm system installed, a year ago. Nine months later when I was leaving the country I called to ask that they cancel the service for a year (as I was told would be feasible at the time of installation) and I would call to reinstall once I returned.
I was told I had to fax in proof that I was moving out of the country, I went out of my way (at a very VERY busy time) I faxed in the information/proof they requested. A week later, I was told (by a supervisor) “sure, we will suspend the service until you get back/ pay the balance of the THREE YEAR contract, which adds up to approximately $1400." I told her I was told by the sales person that there was no contract and she apologized that I had been given the wrong information! I told her I have moved and no longer lived at that house and she said I could (a) transfer the service to who is living there now; (b) I could have it installed in my new house (I'm renting) or (c) pay the penalty. I asked who I could explain the situation to in order to get an exception made and she said no one would waive it.
