Real Canadian Superstore
The award for cheesiest, chintziest ripoff goes to... Superstore on McPhillips

Winnipegers love to save money, which is why we shop at Superstore in the first place. We put up with the crowded parking lots, the blocked aisles (caused both by dollies of goods and foods left in the aisles, and families who insist on having their reunions in those same aisles), bagging our own groceries, having our heels run over by oversized shopping carts. I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

We do not shop at Superstore to buy a perfectly packaged product, which in hindsight was suspiciously light, only to get it home and discover that the perfectly enclosed, packed item was itemless. Yes, empty.

What, you might ask, was this item? No-name, extra-wide aluminum foil! An item that sells for $1.88! I can appreciate a big ripoff. There is always a sneaking admiration for people who are able to pull off a big score and then get away with it. But this?

In its own way it is the perfect scam. The package was opened. If I try to return it, they can say I simply removed the foil myself. Would I even try, for $1.88? It would likely cost as much in gas just to go and come back.

So, all in all, an almost perfect ripoff. It was almost enough to make me forget about the club pack of chicken that was my original purpose is going to Superstore in the first place, that they had, too bad, so sad, run out of on the first day of their flyer special.
