I was currently a college student looking for some Part-time work to pay off my school payments. I began by looking at the Brampton guardian for some work and came by an ad that stated they were looking for people to make 'TRAVEL RESERVATIONS' and 'MARKET RESEARCH'. To Secure and Book Holidays which paid about $630/ wk. There was also bonuses & profit sharing, Days/ Evenings shifts available with no experience Necessary with Full training and Students College & University were welcome.
At first it sounded to good to be true but at the time I really needed the money so I decided to call in to schedule an interview.
The day of the interview I waited patiently along with approximately twelve people wondering which one of us were next to have this interview. About 45 minutes later we were all asked to enter a small meeting room. And the man in charge of the company (Anthony Donato) started to talk about the company and said many big words to have us all brainwashed into thinking it was an amazing job with incredible pay which at first worked for me...
About 2 hours after the interview (which to me seemed more like a conference) i was called and asked to start training 2 days after.
So that day I went back there for training 10-15 earlier, (as they had requested) i again had waited for a while with the few that were hired. They at first had called 3 or 4 people to come in and start off. But when they called the rest of us they had claimed the phone lines were not working and that we would have to come back the following day. This really unprofessional because they could have clearly called me to advise of the news.
Anyways, i came the following day and got assigned a seat. The first 30 or so minutes of the shift everyone, including the ones whom have been working there for a few weeks, had to gather at the front desk to get their small training of the day with the Mr. Donato.
So this is how it works: basically these credit card holders from all over canada who have used their credit card on previous trips automatically gets them on this list which many telemarketing companies buy so they can call you to sell many things in better chance of getting something from you.
Ramada Plaza resort (Teleglobe Inc) basically covers this up by having the credit card holder participate in a so called survey which in the end means nothing because everyone and anyone with a credit card qualifies for the trip. That is what the 'market researchers' do.
What the 'Hotel reservation' staff (which i was hired for) do, is take each and every person that was already called by the 'market researchers' and call them again to tell them that they have this amazing trip for limited time offer and that they have to decide there and then whether they will like to take this trip by taking their credit card number. We go through this 2 page script stating all the great things that is included and how they only have to pay $685US .
BUT it was all brainwashing material that was not realistic at all. Mr. Donato was practically saying the same thing every working shift, He had stated we only call to 'SECURE and BOOK packages of this holiday not sell them so keep it simple!! ' which is the total opposite. We would have to call to convince (which in my case means 'sell') these poor credit card holders to take the trip. It was all planned and presented very well by the company so all the employees would never know what really goes on. Because They really don't tell you that all that money the credit card holders give for the trip does NOT go to Ramada plaza resorts in Florida..it really goes to Teleglobe Inc, Mr.donato's company.
SO i am advising all of those credit card holders to be careful of what they use their credit card for. If you receive a call from a telemarketer from Ramada Plaza Resorts Orlando Ft. Lauderdale Vacations asking if you would like to take this trip... Just simply turn down the trip and move on. It's bad enough for those whom have paid already and cannot find their way out, as you can see from other examples from these other reports. Be kind to the telemarketers though as they are trained to believe other things so they wouldn't know any better.
And as for the workers whom are currently employed under Teleglobe, you deserve better than this..hopefully you will eventually realize the company's true intentions.
