I just got a letter from Ramada Plaza Resorts congratulating me that as a result of my winning a customer service compensation draw, that I was one of five winners of $25, 500.00 AND a complimentary paid vacation.
The Vacation included Ramada Plaza Resorts, Gold Key award winning accomodations for three nights South Florida, two nights in Orlando, Round trip Carnival cruise or Imperial Majesty Cruise, meals and entertainment, Nassau Bahamas and an ecomony rental car for 7 days. WOW I thought - too good to be true!
They included a draft for $5, 094.00 Canadian dollars drawn on Desjardins. In the letter, they call it a check. One has to phone 1-703-986-1907 before I deposit it and state my Ref #.
I called the number and spoke with an agent who was in a hurry to get me to book - and wanted the name of my travelling companion. I questioned him to see if this was legitimate - and I was reprimanded that I "should be happy" on my winnings. I told him I would be happy if I knew it was for real! The agent on the phone was very pushy - I explained that I needed to check on some more details - asked for his name, and could I call him back. He hung up!
It all sounds straight forward, the cheque looks very legitimate but I just read the bottom of the letter - there is a warning that any form of gambling by a minor is forbidden by law. etc.etc
I could not remember that I ever entered my name in any draw. Certainly not at the Ramada Inn.
So I looked up Ramada Plaza on the internet - and found a similar complaint by someone in Chilliwack, which prompted me to respond, as I have relatives in Chilliwack and visit there regularly.
