Extreme Fitness
Dishonest, misleading, poor customer service, fraudulant payments

My girlfriend and I had signed up for Extreme Fitnesses "wonderful" $19/month NO CATCH NO COMMITMENT program. Which to the public, means a one year contract, $19 for the first month with a "last month payment" charge. After the first month of over $100 in fees, a regular monthly payment of $95 is in effect for 11 more months. We liked the facilities and equiptment and hated anyone wearing an Extreme tracksuit. The staff there are this decades "used car salespersons". They are your best buddy and will do anything for a signed conract. Our salesperson, JOEL, has brought in his manager to play the whole, "joel is a new member of our staff and he feels that he isn't doing a good job with you guys" role. We later found out JOEL is in fact a "Membership Manager" OK, so we signed and go screwed out of over $200 in the second month.

Me and my girlfriend unfortunatly inherited an illness that would prevent us from working out indefinately. We were instructed to got to our doctor and have him give us doctors notes. We returned with our notes and they sent us away disregarding them because my doctor had used the word "indefinate". The Extreme fitness staff found this hard to understand and kept insisting that indefinately could mean tomorrow.

I guess thats why they work in a gym, school got them no where. Once I had contacted my lawyer and had him write a formal letter to the gym explaining that they need to terminate the contracts as we have explicit docors orders not to work out. The gym is now getting the Credit Bureau involed for non payment and the General Manager tells us he doesnt see why head office (which is also non existant says all their "receptionists" and the managers) should help us because our account is in bad standing for nonpayment.

This whole ordeal has been going on for 3 months with no progress. Formal doctors notes and lawyers letters seem to do nothing when it states in their policy that we would be released with doctors orders. STEVE is the "general manager" of the whitby location and he also, cant function as a manager. And aswell, to get through to the manager (if that's even possible because hes always "with a client" or "on the phone" ) you need to first be interrogated by the "receptionists" who needs to know every detail of why you are calling. if i wanted to speak to the receptionist about my problem i would, but instead they screen our reasoning for speaking to the manager which seems to me to be very unprofessional. Not to mention the receptionists spend more time flirting with gym users and talking about parties then doing their job handing out towels (not a hard job).

This whole thing is still ongoing with no results. Not to mention the one of of two times my girlfriend went to use the facilities she brought her mom, in order for her mom to use the facilities she had to leave her health card with the gym and then at the end of the session the reception desk no longer has it, they need to intercom someone in the sales team to notify them that they are done working out. After this happens someone walks out of the sales department with my girlfriends mom's health card and then makes her sit down so they can try to force her into joining the gym. after a half an hour of saying no and trying to leave they finally let her go. Not to mention someone else we know also goes to extreme and pays half of what we pay per month for the same facilities and same membership as me and my girlfriend, does it seem fair that there is no fixed rate for gym usage. When we confronted the manager about this, he then looked into that persons account and acted "angry" saying that his wife signed them up on that pay plan and she shouldnt have.

To me that is rediculous and this gym is nothing but a ripoff. Their staff contains mostly unproffessional people, kids out of school and people with no customer service experience. If ANYONE is thinking about joining Extreme, dont, there are alot of other gyms out there that dont steal your money, time and trust. If anyone can in any way help it would be more than greatly appreciated.

Hopefully something will happen to this gym and i'm happy to share my story to make sure that no more innocent people like me and my girlfriend get sucked into something this horrible.

Thank You.
