This "Secret Shopper" scam is apparently the same "Group" as reported twice in Dec. 2008 under the name "Consumers Affair Group", using the same address in Ontario, Canada and the same secret shopping set-up, but different telephone number and check amount.
I received a check for $2, 495.00, of which $2, 095.00 was to be sent back to them by MoneyGram, $50.00 to be spent at Wal-Mart, and $50.00 to be spent at J.C.Penney, receipts required from all three. The check apparently cleared initially, but when they got the MoneyGram, they bounced it -6 days after being sent. As soon as the MoneyGram was sent, there was only a recording to
leave a message at their phone number, which sounded like the same woman (with a very slight accent) I had spoken with previously.
Right after the check bounced, the "customer" became suddenly "unavailable, so they probably change phone numbers with regularity. Sure wish we could get them in a class action suit!!
