This is a complete scam. I received this letter in the mail from these guys claming that I won $39, 000. Also enclosed is a check for the supposed taxes due to them in the amount of $3, 900. At the bottom it said to call one of their agents by the name of Jane Smith or Larry David to assist you in filing the claim.
The check looked kinda legit, but I detected BS, so I looked online for the bank that issued the check, Huntington National Bank. I talked with the customer service rep and told them about the situation and she told me that the check was fake, and that they don't have an account with that company name. I then called the number on the letter to their "agents" and the number was mysteriously disconnected. That's when I knew it was fake.
Don't cash the check, all it's gonna do is bounce and you'll owe your bank $3, 900. There's gonna be more scams like this that are gonna prey on people, especially with our economy in a downturn. Don't let greed take over your common sense. Like they always say: "If it's too good to be true, it probably is".
