I received a letter from "Publishers Clearing House" stating that I had won USD $195, 000. Enclosed was a check for $2950 from a company in New Jersey. When I called the phone number enclosed, I was told to cash or deposit the check, then mail the amount to them for taxes and clearance fees so my money could be released to me. I was told that "our people" would immediately (usually within 48 hours) to personally present me with my winnings. Sound too good to be true? I thought so. I told them I would call back the next day to make arrangements; however, I researched online and found several similar scam operations that have been reported. The envelope was unmarked except for my name and address and their was no contace info included besides a phone number that I traced to Canada. All I can say is how careful everyone needs to be. I plan to report this further and even notify the company that the check seems to be from, because I feel sure the check is forged.
