As readers of this site know, the Master Craftsman has a terrible reputation for preying on its customers, especially seniors and new Canadians, and engaging in misleading and high pressure tactics. Now their signs read TMC because the Master Craftsman brand has acquired such a horrific reputation. But make same mistake, it is still the same sleazy company that we have come to know and loathe.
My own terrible experience involved a salesman/appraiser who came to my house to appraise a piece of furniture and then proceeded to lie to me at least three times.
First, he told me he had just seen the same item at an antique auction selling for $8, 000, which was clearly absurd and designed to convince me to pay a high restoration fee.
Then he told me that the knobs were rare and were themselves worth almost $1, 000. Again, a complete fabrication.
Then the real whopper. He told me he that he only gets a salary and no commission so he doesn't have any incentive for me to purchase their services. That is tantamount to fraud. Of course these appraisers get a commission or bonus. Only the most naive people would believe that, but unfortunately they prey on the naive.
I knew right away that this company is not to be trusted and that people should avoid them like the plague.
Beware!!
