Sears Canada Inc.- Home Central In Montreal (residential Renevation, Roofing) Sears does not honor contract, it's money driven, no customer service

In early May 2009, I entered into a contract with Sears Home Central (a Montreal based company supposedly providing quality home renovation service to its clients) to replace the shingles of my house and solarium. The price tag was substantially higher than that offered by other companies. However, I was nave to believe what the sales representative said. They have been in business for over 40 yearsthe price is high, but the service will be outstanding

Before I signed the contract, I even had invited the representative twice to make sure that he understood everything. I specifically asked him to make sure that the company level up the joint between the main roof and the solarium roof and that '' PLY wood sheets be used before putting the ice sheet and shingles. The rep promised everything by saying don't worry, we know what we are doing.

The contract stated that the job would be done in one day, and a 30-year warranty of shingles and 5-year installation guarantee was also promised. In terms of payment, I would make 36 instalments and I would have to pay both GST and PST together with the first instalment only after the job was completed in a good and workmanlike manner.

In late May, the roofers came and replaced the roof of the house. However, then they partially removed the old shingles from the solarium roof only to tell me that it was a carpenter's job to level up the joint between the main roof and the solarium roof; they stopped the job just like thatI also realized that they brought only press wood sheets, not ply wood sheets as promised.
Then they took off. By the way, I had a flat tire on one of the nails left by the roofers.

After a number of my calls, the Sears rep said they needed an extra of 2000 dollars to complete the job, which was in addition to an estimated price tag for 1000 dollars already included in the contract. I was explaining to the sales rep that a contract is a legally binding document. He said the number in the contract was just an estimated price. It is something beyond my knowledge in law.

Over $3000 is just not making any sense to fix a roof of about 160 square feet. So I had to waste time and energy to reach an agreement (with Sears) of cancellation for the solarium roof. But the main roof should be finished.
After the roofers left, I climbed up into the attic only to see sunlight around the plumbing vent and kitchen ventilation vent, which, according to the Sears, is perfect.

So the job was not complete. But I already got the first bill and very soon I will get another oneMeanwhile, I had to seal around the vents myself, for I think it is not that perfect to see sunlight and rain from inside the attic.

In short, the roofing department of Sears Home Central (Montreal) is an ugly business player. No one should trust them. My first experience with Sears will be definitely the last one.
