In 1996 I had my roof replaced with a product called Fin-al Roof (SuperRoof) Since then the roof has blown partly off 4 different times. First time in Sept 2000, repairs were made quickly but with a different shade of color. The roofing company claimed that the origional color was no longer availabe. The second time the roof blew off, the company refused to make repairs unless they were able to replace the facial boards and some of the boards under the roof at a cost of appox. $1300 to $3000.This I refused and I replaced the facial boards myself along with the pieces of roofing they gave me.
They had told me that when the roof was to be installed they would replace any boards that needed to be replaced at an extra cost which I could understand. There was no boards replaced when the roof was installed. After the first time the roof was damaged a rep. was out to look at the roof and the rep told us that the roof was not completed and they would send someone out to fasten the starter strip down. No one ever came out. The third time the roof was damaged I had to scure the roof myself and I supplied the stageing. They did come and repaired the roof after a couple of weeks.
This time the roof has come off during the Noel storm in November and I have tried to get them to come out to repair the damage. The only way that I was able to get them to return my call was to threaten to call BBB and when I did that they did return my call right away. I had made arangements to e-mail them picture of the roof hoping that it would speed up the repairs, they had told me that they would send someone out to asses the damage and that is when I offered the pictures. After many attemps of sending the pictures they said they got the pictures.
Two weeks ago I sent them an e-mail because I was getting tired of waiting for a response. Maybe it is time that I called the BBB and Live at Five and the Daily News to see if they would be interested in my story. I had also told them that the roof was leaking and if the water made its way to the plaster I would be sending them the bill. The response I got was that they are busy with other commitments that have more priorities than me and it would be at least 2 weeks or more before they could deal with my repairs.
Now 2 weeks have almost gone and still not a word. I have even told them that other people had problems with their roofs too and they were repaired the next day (not the same roof) I told them that I had people asking about the roof and if it was going to be repaired and I said that it was not very good advertizing for their product. I even made a comment of "super roof more like super rip offs" So they know that I'm not happy. I paid $13, 000 for this roof and it was to last a life time or 50 years if the house was sold. It was financed through International Exteriors and is paid for.
The roof has an area of appox. 8 or 10 square feet that is missing the steel shingles off of it and the remaining shingles are bent up and the wind and the rain is getting under the roof causing more damage. When the roof blew off the first time my wife was in the hospital having a baby and when I called her parents to tell them the good news her dad told us that the fire department was at our house holding down the roof.
The next day one of the firemen (who is also a carpenter) told me that the nails were to short and that is why the wind blew it off. Word to the wise. DON'T EVER GET THIS TYPE OF ROOFING!
