I drive a truck for a living and with the increased cost of diesel fuel and tougher anti-idling laws, I decided to have my new truck outfitted with an APU (Auxiliary Power Unit). Basically, what these do is allow the operator to shut off the main diesel engine of the vehicle and in its place run the smaller engine of the APU. This in turn is supposed to help by reducing fuel costs, maintenance costs and wear and tear on the main engine. The APU also consists of a HVAC system that is supposed to keep the operator comfortable in all temperatures.
From the date I picked up my truck in December 2007, the APU had operational problems such as failing to stay running because of low coolant levels. Other problems are the HVAC system does not move enough air to be efficient, the AC system loses its refrigerant charge on a regular basis, the AC system does not cool the interior of my truck's cab below 85 degrees if the sun is shining even on cool days, and the fuel system on the APU's engine constantly needs to be manually primed to get air out of the system so it will run without stalling.
I have in good faith attempted to rectify these and other concerns by visiting Rigmaster Power Corp's service centers in several states. These Problems could not be corrected. I attempted to communicate my concerns with the technical support staff at Rigmaster Power Corp through phone calls and email. These attempts were met with responses like "You need to go to a different service center where the techs have more experience with our products." Every place I went to for service was an authorized Rigmaster Dealer listed in Rigmaster's service directory.
Now the company appears to be out of business and the dealer service network is non-existent as is the warranty on the unit. Yet if you look online at the company's website you will find that it is still operational as if nothing has happened. Calls to the company's phone numbers give you a recorded message stating that they have ceased all operations and are no longer selling units or parts.
I am looking for other truck drivers or recreational vehicle owners who are experiencing similar issues with these Rigmaster APU units and I hope that something can be done legally to force this company to refund the over $8800.00 cost that I and others paid for these worthless APU's.
I am also looking to be contacted by an attorney on potential legal action.
