Illegal Interview Questions

(Link for what's illegal/legal in interview questions.)

Looking into that, I never realized how many illegal questions they have asked me until I started venting about it and people told me their questions were illegal. I looked it up and sure enough, almost all of their questions were irrelevant to the position..."Designer Consultant".

Every time they ask me, they wrote my answer unto to their piece of paper and I had no idea how it was relevant. Due to my desperation for a job, I thought it's necessary to answer it all. I was basically grilled by 2 individuals back to back for over an hour on things that I thought were a little too personal. Here are some of the questions I was asked that I did not find relevant to the position I was applying for, but yes, I answered eitherway:

- Where have you been looking for your job? (website addresses)

- List of companies you have applied for?

- What do your parents do for a living?

- Did you apply for a position in your mother's workplace? Why not? (my mother is a factory worker and with my received degree, my goal is to have atleast a less physically straining position)

- Do you have any siblings?

- What is your sibling's job?

- What is your sibling's spouse's job?

- Do your sibling and the spouse live with you?

- Why aren't the other companies calling you back?

- Why didn't you contact them back them when they didn't call you back?

- Why couldn't you get a job if you say you've been applying to jobs on a regular basis?

- What have you been doing in order to land a job? (this one really confused me)

- How much were you making on your side-business?

- How did you manage to pay for your bills if you were only making X amount?

- *Insert smart-ass tone* You must have made A LOT of money to be able to not work and still manage to pay for your bills?

- Did you pay for your school tuition?

- Do you live at home with your parents or by yourself?

- Do you plan on moving out?

- Are your parents going to be supportive if you move out?

- *Insert smart-ass tone* No wonder you were able to stay unemployed for a long time, you just lived at home. (ummm... it's called recession!)

These are the only things I can think of at the back of my head, but seriously?! How are they relevant?! For over an hour I was being personally interrogated, I almost walked out on them. Oh well, I'll find out soon if I'm hired or not... lol!
