In 2004 i purchased a used tv for $300.00 by cheque. The person i purchased this from asked if i could give her the cash wich i in turn did. I asked her for my cheque back and she said she ripped it up and of course i did not put a stop payment on it.
She went to money mart and cashed it there. It was returned nsf. Money mart collected 149.00 dollars from her. Now i have received a garnishe for 579.00 at my place of employment. When i asked where i was served money mart said that it did not matter where i was served i owed them this money.
I feel like i never had a chance to go to court to defend myself as i was not served with paper's. And How can we go from owing $151.00 out of 300.00 to owing 579.00. I understand there is extra cost or whatever but $579.00 Where are my right's in this.
