Two Small Men With Big Hearts
RIP-OFF Complete and Total Corruption

My wife and I are in the midst of a moving nightmare. We hired Two Small Men with Big Hearts to move our belongings from Hamilton, ON to Prince George, BC.

Here is the play-by-play of what happened. If you are considering these guys or any other moving company please make detailed notes on everything. This will hopefully help out if you need to go to court.

WARNING THIS IS LONG AND PAINFUL, however, if you are moving with these guys or are thinking about it... PLEASE READ IT.

May 27, 2004 -- Movers arrive to move our belongings from Hamilton, ON to Prince George, BC. We were informed that our things would be in storge in Kelowna, BC and it would take about 2-3 days after we called to get our things.

June 26, 2004 -- My wife and I arrive back off our vacation.

July 2 Informed Mark from the long-haul division that we had a new house and could readily accept our goods. I had to leave a message on the answering machine as well, talking with the assistant to Mark. She said He is very good at returning his phone calls'.

July 6 After not receiving any phone call from Mark, I called again to the long-haul division about the new location. I also asked my mother to call and see what she could do. Neither of us could reach Mark.

July 7 I called again to the office to try and speak to Mark. He was in the office and informed I that it would be late next week'. I asked him why was it going to be so long, he said that they only truck coming out there wasn't scheduled until then.

July 13 Call the office to see what the status was on picking up the extra items from Thunder Bay, ON. They still hadn't picked them up at this point. I could also not get a hold of Mark. I left 2 messages asking him to contact me at the earliest possible time.

July 14 After speaking with my mother-in-law, Mark informed her that the truck to pick up our belongings in Thunder Bay would be there on morning of the July 16th at 4:00am.

July 16 After calling Mark again, my mother was told that the truck would be in Prince George early next week'. And that they would call before they arrived.

July 16 My mother-in-law proceeded to prepare for the movers. They did not arrive at 4:00 am as she had stayed up the entire night waiting for them.

July 16 Movers from Winnipeg called my mother-in-law telling her that they would arrive approx 9:00 pm that evening. They didn't arrive or call to say they were they were.By chance at approx. 3am on the 17th, my aunt heard knocking at the back door. It was the movers, they proceeded to enter and remove our belongings. At one point, a box that was clearly marked fragile' and this end up' was completely turned over and handle without care. My aunt noticed this while the person was doing it, informed them that it was a fragile box, and that the contents had to stay in that position. They told her that it had to go in the truck this way.

July 19 I called the office 2 times during the day to inquire of a possible delivery time. Neither of the calls were returned.

July 21 I spoke to Mark at 8:30 am PST. Mark informed him that the truck with the belongings would not be there until Early next week'. Asked again for a reason, Mark informed me that a flood in Winnipeg had delayed the trucks. He also stated that all of the moving companies had been affected. He also stated that if I had a problem with the service to call the complaints office' after that remark, he then chuckled to himself.

July 21 I called the Two Small Men with Hearts and spoke with Carmen in the long-haul division of the office in Winnipeg. They informed him that no flooding had taken place at all. That trucks they had coming in and out of the city weren't hindered at all.

July 21 I called Allied International moving company. They prepared a quote to come and pick up the belongings from the TSMH office on 100 Rivalda Road, Toronto, and deliver it out to Prince George.

July 21 I called the TSMH office in Toronto to speak with Mark about the whereabouts of the shipment. I needed to obtain the actual location for a pickup. Mark informed me that he was totally sure if the shipment was there. He had to call his dispatcher, Brent. After being on hold, Mark told I that Brent would call him back.

July 21 Brent called about 10 minutes later informing I that the shipment was on already on it's way. The truck at this time was in NWO. He also informed us that we would not be paying the $150 pickup charge or the excess weight charge. He gave me the names of the people in the truck, told me that they have satellite tracking and that they would have to be in Alberta for 4 days. They would call 2 days before they arrived.

July 27 Called Brent to see what the status of the move was. I was directed to his voice mail box. I left a message asking him to call me back. He did not.

July 28 Called the office in Toronto, used the extension number 109, to obtain his voice mail again. I left message to call me on my cell phone at anytime.

July 29 Called office, talked with Brent, he informed us that the movers were in Edmonton and that they would call us for sure' today. They didn't.

July 30 Called office, talked to Brent, he informed me that the moving truck was in West Bank, BC. They would be unloading 11, 000 lbs there and then moving up to Prince George. He said that they would call us today for sure, after I informed him that we had a wedding that weekend. Brent also stated that he couldn't get a hold of them via cell phone because the cell phone was broken. He would have to wait until they called him.

July 30 Norm calls from truck, which they tell us they are still driving to West Bank. It seems from the number on the Caller ID it is based out of the Hamilton area. The number is 905-353-73**. When we looked it up, it is a Niagara based number with Bell Canada. He informs us that they will be there on Saturday, July 31 or Sunday For Sure'.

July 31 Norm calls in evening informing us that the load in West Bank is taking longer because of the customer needing to go to the bank machine every day. He states that they will be in Prince George on Sunday, August 1.

August 1 No phone call or arrival for the truck.

August 2, 8:56 am Norm calls to inform us that they are 40 km's outside of Kamloops. Being the long weekend, it will take them approx 7-8 hours to get to Prince George. My wife and I wait at home and get things moved around for their arrival.

August 2, 5:37 pm Norm calls at and informs us that they are in Quesnel (1.5 hours away), and that the truck is in need of repairs. They won't be able to get to Prince George until the afternoon the next day. He again had called using the 905-353-73** cell phone, which apparently was broken.

August 3 Norm doesn't call nor does the truck come with our things. In the afternoon I call them to see what the plan is for them dropping our stuff off. Norm informs me that they won't be making it to Prince George for two more days.

August 5 Norm calls on our cell phone to tell us they are running behind but, the truck should be ready to go by 5:00 pm PST. At 7:30 pm I call Norm to see if they are on schedule. He again tells me that the truck isn't ready to go. He also informs me that they will FOR SURE' be in Prince George the next day.

August 6 11:00 am PST, Norm calls to inform us that they will be in Prince George by 2 or 3 pm PST and that he will call us to confirm directions. At 4:50 pm, when they do not show up, I call Norm. He informs me that they won't be coming due to more complications with the truck. He also guarantees that they will be there the next day by 8:00 am PST. He will phone at 7:30 am to verify the directions to our house.

August 7 9:30 am PST. Norm calls to say they are almost in Prince George, they arrive at our house at 9:50 am. At this time, Norm informs me that we have an outstanding balance of $3940.00 and that if we don't pay it right now, they won't give us our belongings. We informed Norm that the estimate that was given to us by Mark was for $2400.00 total. We had already put a $770.00 deposit, so bring the total to approximately $4600.00. He told us that it was not his responsibility, and that Mark was an independent estimator. He also informed us that the estimate means nothing' in terms of the agreement or the final bill.

After telling Norm that we had an agreement with Brent about the extra drop off fee and the extra weight. Norm called Brent, who was on vacation' in Victoria, and even though we weren't allowed to talk to him or know his cell phone number. Norm told us that Brent knew nothing of our move or the details of it, which is strange because I phoned him about 25 times in the last 3 weeks.

To just get this nightmare over with, I give Norm my credit card, he proceeds to fill out the bill and have me sign it. They begin to unload the truck. I had to go to work at 10:30am so my wife would be the one overseeing the move. At 1:00 pm PST, I call home to see how the move is going, apparently we have a large number of goods that are water damaged and physically damaged. Hearing this made me feel sick to my stomach, so I asked to go home from work.

When I arrived, the movers had left and my wife began to fill me in on the details of the initial damages she could see.

We had our coffee table smashed, our books case totally water damaged, glass from some of our paintings had been smashed, gouges and nicks on almost all of our furniture, and these are the things that THEY packed. To end off all of this, we end up finding someone else's furniture among ours. Unbelievable.

So, now we are in the claims process, which if it goes anything like how the move went, we're going to lose a lot more sleep.

A nightmare. Look for www.twosmallmenwithouthearts.com coming soon.
