, TLA Entertainment Group, Commerce Bank North American Sweepstakes Mail Check Fraud

I got a letter in the mail from this company stating that I was a sweapstakes winner. They included a check in the amount of $3, 800.00 which was to be deposited into my personal bank account. Once that amount cleared the bank and became available, I was to contact them for information on paying the Non-resident tax and claim the remainder of my winnings.

There was a contact name listed for the Claim Dispursement Agent, Mr. Wayne Johnson to be contacted at 416-507-2484 Ext 1.
I called Mr. Johnson and he was insisting that I immediately deposit the check to claim my winnings.

Here is the interesting part...
The check is written on the account of TLA Entertainment Group, Inc. from Philadelphia. An internet search finds this comapny which operates a video rental business and seems legit. The Check is drawn against Commerce Bank in Mount Laurel, NJ. I did notify th ebank to see if the address information was valid on the check and to speak with their fraud department in case they were unwilling participants in this.

Long story short, I am not going to fall victim to their scam. I hope this report helps someone else before they make a bad decision.
