I am filing this report out of frustration, and with the hope to draw attention to other similar cases. I am on the Stylus talent board and I completed a job on June 26, 2008. My contract specifies that I am to be paid on average within 60-90 days. I contacted the client responsible for transferring my payment to Stylus and was informed that it was processed on August 20, 2008. Why would it take the agency over a month to provide me with a cheque? I have inquired multiple times both by email and phone and have received very little assistance or explanation as to the whereabouts of my payment.
This issue must be taken very seriously as it has broader ramifications. Talent agencies must be held responsible for their accounting practices. They are not entitled to use the money earned by their talent. This money should be held in trust, in a separate account for each person they have chosen to represent. This money must not be unreasonably withheld. This practice is highly unprofessional and should not be tolerated by anyone in the industry.
