Same scenario I have read over and over. Only it looks like the scammers might be reading these reports, too! One poster made reference to TD Financial having a green letterhead. I just received the scam letter last month, and 'sat' on it and the check. My letter has the green letterhead. Anyway, these idiots are still out there, and preying on people, hoping to find a vulnerable recipient.
My letter has a Claim Number of TDM23 90 78. It also mentions the "CONSUMER PROMOTION DRAW", and that there was an entry slip with serial number 5674599. I am 'entitled' to the sum of $250, 000.00, and it would be delivered to me by Fed EX or UPS. I was assigned a Claims Agent, a STEVE BROWN 1-778-883-6277. My Tax Agent has the name of CANDY CROW, with an address of 6809 8th Avenue, St John, NF, Canada, E5B 4T8.
A check was enclosed for $4, 750.00, drawn on 'CAULEY FERRARI MASERATI, in West Bloomfield, MI. Comerica Bank. (what would a car dealership have to do with this supposed contest?). The Non Residents Canadian Tax to be paid by Money Gram was $3, 880 us dollars.(us dollars is exactly how it is written. No capilalization... The letter instructs me: "DO NOT ACT ON THIS LETTER UNTIL YOU SPEAK WITH YOUR CLAIMS AGENT for advice on how to claim your winnings". I never called anyone-I felt it was an obvious scam from the get-go.
I will admit that the check looks bona-fide. There are a few spelling errors. MY check is signed by 'MVanBuren'!! I was not taken in, but decided to google the company name, and came up with this site. I was amazed at the number of reports, and figured I'd add mine, to let folks know that 'they' are still up to their tricks. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM! Once you send the money, it is gone!
