All prospecting jobseekers,
I would just like to tell you about my experience. I was contacted because I posted my resume on Careerbuilder. I attended a brief 3 minute initial interview in which the founder told me about the company and the major promotions and clientele they had. This 'Company Owner' also boasts he was in the NFL on his webpage although his career was short lived as it was only 4 games, yet to his fellow employees he was some sort of business guru as a result of making the NFL draft.

After the interview I observed the frequency of people coming in to interview and also at the low level of professionalism in their dress and mannerisms. I received a call that night and was told to set aside 8 hours the next day and wear comfortable shoes as we will be working out of the office tomorrow. When I arrived the next day I was surprised to see some of the same unprofessional individuals from the previous day and the red flags began to fly.

When I was finally brought in to meet with the big boss, he had five of his team leaders with him and he introduced them to me. One of the guys shook my hand and it felt like a dead fish. The other guy was wearing a three-piece suit that was about 4 inches too big everywhere, and he had on gym shoes to boot. And I also noticed the founder had on the exact suit from the previous day (tie, shoes and all). Finally I met my team leader, a twenty-two year old fresh out of the Navy.

We left the office and went to the parking lot where he told me and three others to pile into his compact kia. I said someone can ride with me as I don't mind driving. He said I needed to drive with him as part of the interview. I knew I had friends that would come get me if necessary so I played along, at this point just trying to figure out all the intricate details of this phony organization. In the car I asked how long each had been there, and to my shock the team leader was the senior with 33 days. 'But he moved up real fast.'

On the way to our location, which they needed a map to find, he began to attempt to teach me about marketing, at least what he had learned in a month. On numerous occasions I caught him trying to preach to me and the others completely wrong marketing facts and nuances. Unless those professors with masters degrees and doctorates are full of it. Then he began to give me lessons on life to include marriage, home ownership and cars. I am 26 years old, have a bachelors and minor and am also a Staff Sgt in the Armed Forces reserve with 2 combat deployments. I owned a condo and my car is completely paid off. Who was he preaching to?

When we arrived at our destination it turned out to be a college campus. And we were selling or 'promoting' pizza coupons for 25.99. I walk with him for 39 minutes to see if he would actually sell one and he did. Then I told him this was not for me, don't mind the ride as I would meet some old friends on campus.

My only regret was that I could not see through the phoniness of the so-called company. I sold coupons in High School, I did not attend college to do that. I was glad I did not give the full 8 hours but mad that I could have been so stupid. This is a complete scam, I am convinced that had I stayed they would have had me selling that day, for no money... nothing better than free labor.
