I received this letter that stated I was a 2nd place winner in the "Golden Shopper's Sweepstakes held on May 25, 2007. They included an award ticket number and told me the lump sum payout was USD$68, 000.00. congratulations in big red letters.
I was totally excited especially when this very official check in the amount of $3, 450.00 was included (they said to pay your accounting, tax processing and clearance fees for the pirze). I couldn't believe it - I could really use the money and it looked like it was a blessing from god.
Then all the hairs in the back of my neck stood up - is this for real?? Why not just send the entire check certified mail??
So I called publishers clearing house - and asked them. Sadly, I found out that it was a scam, that I wasn't the first person who this was sent to, and that it was a good thing that I didn't deposit it, becuase it would have done crazy things to my account.
If the people that would think up these scams - who look for ways to harm people would use their creative ideas for good, then we could change the world. I hope that no one else falls into this trap. As my dad says... if it seems to be too good to be true, it is.
