In February, 2003 I have found an add in a romanian newspaper saying that an agency named Caledonian Offshore, Ltd. is hiring people to work in oil industry, on oil platforms for a salary between $250-$400 per day.
I was very interested and I had requested more information filling up a form on their web site. After almost 2 months I have received a letter with an agreement saying that if I want to get a job in the oil industry I will have to be part of their database. To do so I have to sign the agreement and to send a initial fee of $189.00 togheter with my resume by a deadline mentioned in the agreement.
I did so and I somebody told me that is a tricky way of starting the process, by asking for money in advance... So, after I mailed them the documents with $200.00 in traveller cheques, I decided to do some research on the internet. I found out that the business is not registered in any country and read testimonials from different people saying that the agency is a bogus business...
Looks like I will be one of them right now and just because I thought that I can get a job makes me one of the fooled ones.
