I joined this gym back in May 2004 and signed on for 1yr. After the one year was up I notified 2 mademoiselle workers that I would not be renewing my contract in May 2005. I notified one by phone and one in person. Both said it was fine and would be taken care of.
With no notice of renewal or a phone call or even a bill, I recieve a collections call 3 months later stating that I owe for the last 3 months and that they will not cancel my contract until I make full payment!
First of all, I have proof from other customers from this location that these ladies at the "counter" are taking verbal requests for cancellation from their customers. Also it is impossible to get a hold of any type of autority figure for the company other than a 25 yr old manager who has very bad business skills. Apparently these contracts renew automatically which you are not made aware of when signing nor speaking with anyone these about it, and you must send cancellation in writing.
I refuse to pay for a service I did not use, and this is only the beginning. Both my sisters where ripped off by this company. Once they took money from without the company even being open, then another the monthly payments weren't being taken from her account. So she advised them of this. Then the next week the full year cost was withdrawn from her bank account $900 without any authorization!
How do these poeple get away with this types of things?? The owner of premier fitness took over Gold's Gym, who if you remember, sold lifetime memberships to thousands, then went under and all those people lost, or are still fighting for their money back. These people are crooks and have horrible business skills. I have about 20 written letters from young ladies in this city alone that have a complaint about being "taken" by this corperation. The people of St. Catharines need to know about this company so they too do not loose a cent to these corperate scandalists!
