On 6/23/07 we received a letter that was postmarked July 15, 2007 from Canada. It did not have a returned address on the envelope. The letter stated that we had won 66, 000 and a check for 2, 900.00 was inside the envelope. We called the number on the letter and spoke to a "John Anthony". We were told that we had to take the check for 2, 900.00 and deposit it through the ATM, giving them access to our pin number. I became suspicious immediately. I called SunTrust (the bank on which the check was drawn) and reported my suspicions. I was told that there is a scam going on where this company claims that a consumer has been chosen to receive money from a computer ballot system. Thank God we did not take this "check" to the bank. Mr. Anthony also stated that "we had to keep this a secret". He also stated that the check could not be deposited into a regular checking account but through the "ATM". That made me more suspicious. He also said something about "you can't tell anyone because then information about this will leak out". We were asked by SunTrust to report this to the PD in our area. Anyone who receives a letter like this should call the BBB immediately or the bank on which the check is drawn. We must protect our consumers from this identity and bank information theft. Nadia
