I called last week because of a broken pipe that was connected to my outside spigot. No water could flow to the outside of the house for my hose. I talked to someone named Don i believe. I told him that he could send someone over either in the next 2 hours (as i had to go out) or on the following thursday or froday. He said they had someone a few blocks away and they would be over in 30 minutes. That's all he said. The guy arrived and after a 10 minute inspection informed me that he would provide me with a 'special' price. He was right, it was special : $816 plus tax FOR TWO OR THREE HOURS WORK!!! I'm no idiot so i declined. He then presented me with a bill for $49.50 plus tax for the 'service' call'. I was so caught off-guard that i paid it. I called another three companies and asked if they charged for dropping by: none did. One of the companies came the next day and fixed the problem in 45 minutes for $150. I called water works to complain about the 'service'call charge and was informed by their dispatcher that there was a charge because they had to drive to my place from another city (lie) and that it was an emrgency call (lie). I called them again and this time the plumber told me that it was standard practice to always charge $49.50. Which is it? My wife called to complain and the plumber called her a liar saying that i had been informed of the charge when i first called. Now i know that $49.50 is not a lot of money. It's the ethics of this company that bother me. They lie and overcharge> DON'T EVER USE WATER WORKS - THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF - CALL YOU A LIAR - OVERCHARGE BY 500 %. STAY AWAY FROM THESE LOSERS.
