Last week, (July 12th, 2013) an Ontario Energy Group Rep showed up at my door and asked to do some efficiency inspections. My father complied, took him through the house to show him the furnace, the hot water tank, and then outdoors to the air conditioning unit. He sat down in our living room and told my father all about the savings he would have and ensured him that nothing would come out of pocket. I did not like the sound of this guy because of his repeated "Umm yeah's" and generally unprofessional manner of "pitching" the savings, but I am just the daughter and my opinion doesn't matter much. My father read through the fine print that night, ran some numbers, and realized it would in fact cost slightly more for their services; AND he would have to give up his Saturday to wait for the service guys to come around. He called and cancelled the next day.
Fast forward to today, one week later, July 19th. The same Rep, Josh D, shows up at our door and starts his pitch. My father quickly informs him, "Hey, you were here last week. When you were in the backyard you were checking out my old car." Josh informs us that he doesn't remember being here; but somehow knows our installation is scheduled for tomorrow. My father told Josh we had to cancel, and Josh asked "Why? " My father explained that he ran some numbers and he wouldn't really be saving much money. Josh then begins a long argument with my father; "No there isn't any way you'd be losing money", "I have been working at this company for five years and no one has regretted the switch" "You aren't going to be paying any money out of pocket, man". My father finally told the guy, "Listen, I have programs and spreadsheets that I use to track all of my utilities and spending, I am very careful about this. I know I wouldn't be saving any money." Josh responds; "No you are wrong. Show me now." My father had to shut the door on Josh as we can hear him passively aggressively yelling from the other side, "Wow man. That was really cool of you. Really mature".
Are these really the kind of people that companies employ for five years? To send out and harass customers on their porches? I really hope not.
