Jeff Brownlee Leggat Auto Group
Car salesperson lied to, scammed, deceived single mother

'm not one to go online and complain about every little thing but the generally poor service, outright lies and scam attempts by one Leggat employee need to be brought to the car buying publics attention.

This isn't a complaint about a specific dealership but about one salesperson, Jeff Brownlee, who is employed by them and their used car branch.

My girlfriend recently had the misfortune of securing financing and buying a used car through www.lag.ca

Here is a brief summary of the crap that this individual pulled.

1. Told her that a "gap coverage protection" insurance package for $1000 was required in order for them to approve her financing. Phone calls we made to the company that provided it as well as her insurance company (through which she had said coverage) revealed to us that this was a complete scam and said coverage was NOT required for financing to be approved. Jeff Brownlee from Leggat EVENTUALLY admitted this when confronted and told us that Leggat trained their salespeople to try and get people to buy this coverage by being deceptive about it being required. He actually admitted to attempting to scam her, a single mother of two, out of over $1000. She was able to cancel the contract for this "coverage" before 30 days was over, but SHE had to chase him down to get it done and the fact remained he out and out lied to her.

2. Took almost 2 months to get her the vehicles ownership. In fact she had only a few days to get her stickers renewed when he finally delivered it after NUMEROUS phone calls and excuses to get it done. This is completely unacceptable. He certainly had plenty of time to make the sale but none to follow through. There was no particular reason it appeared for the delay, except his laziness, until we get to the next issue and it looks like his stalling was intentional after all.

3. Told her when she was purchasing the vehicle that it came with an extended warranty which would be transfered from the previous owner into her name. I was present when he told her of this warranty upon initial purchase and on subsequent occasions when he acknowledged the existence of said warranty but failed, once again, to deliver the paperwork. As time went on and more and more phone calls were made to get this paperwork delivered and the warranty transferred his answers became more evasive and he became harder to get a hold of. Finally after finding someone at the dealership that he may or may not report to, he became somewhat more responsive.

We come to find out that it is a third party warranty, he did not say it was offered by Mazda but certainly should have mentioned this, and that it had to be transferred to her by the previous owner and it was "not his problem". Well, he told her the car came with a warranty that they would transfer to her, and "Don't worry, I will take care of everything." So that certainly sounds like his problem. More calls to his boss get her a copy of a transfer form and the name of the 3rd party warranty company. The form clearly states that the warranty is only transferable by the original owner and cannot be transfered if it goes through a dealership. So he out and out lied to her and knew all along that transferring the warranty would not be possible though he kept lying and making excuses and saying he would take care of it. Further the paperwork stated that you only had 15 days from purchase to transfer it.

This explains why he stalled and stalled, refused to return calls and would not provide her ownership or this warranty information for almost two months! He even at one point when questioned about the warranty on the phone said "I don't know anything about any warranty."

If that is the case why did he acknowledge it's existence on several occasions and why do we now have a copy of the transfer form? He actually tried to suggest he never said anything about it and she was making it up!

This isn't over. Someone at Leggat says they are going to take care of this extended warranty issue but that will be the bare minimum they can do to make up for the dishonesty and fraudulent actions of this salesperson.

Avoid dealing with this individual, Jeff Brownlee, at all costs. I would guess that he has pulled this BS with others before.
