Have a loan agreement stamped, receipt saying paid in full, company saying loan NOT paid ripoff

We paid out a loan 2002, months after we took it out. I have our loan agreement stamped, RECEIVED, I have a receipt stamped RECEIVED, with the date, on HFC letterhead. The girl was supposed to mail a release letter, never did. One yr later, collection company called. Said I owed HFC full loan amount. I faxed our receipts, never heard again.

Next yr, same thing. Called office, spoke with DAN, he said THEIR OFFICE MADE MISTAKE, ignore calls, we owe NOTHING. Fine for another yr. Still collections. Called head office, rude beligerant, hung up in tears. Still collections are calling. Everytime I fax receipt, they go away, next time a new collection agency. Went to renew our mortgage, DECLINED. HFC TAGGED CREDIT. We owe less than half of homes worth, one extra debt (credit line) FURIOUS!! Can not get anywhere with this company! Called equifax, they can not do a thing, unless company agress loan was paid out!

This company is not only dishonest and shifty, they refuse to be co-operative! I have been called a liar, and sworn at on the phone! How can a company just tag your credit like that? Where are OUR rights, as consumers? 5 yrs later and still no further ahead.
