We used 2 Small Men to move from Toronto to Edmonton in May 2006 and it by far was the worst experince of our lives. AVOID this Company at any cost. They will give a low estimate (purposefully underestimate to pull you into their scam), take an immediate deposit (which you will never see again if you get wise to them and cancel) they will show if and when they feel like it and will deliver when THEY are ready and hold your items hostage until they can extort extra money ie they will inflate the charge due to their underestimate.
Here is a "short" list of my unfortune dealings with 2SM and it plays out much like all the other complaints you will read (ie they run the same scam repeatedly):
1. show a week early to pick up belongings and told me I was not booked for following week - told me to call Brett at office
2. call and called Brett and no one returned calls - could not cancel as knew would probably loose deposit.
3. FINALLY got thought to Bret and assured the papers were there and they would show.
4. Promised verbally by Mark that would receive belongings on June 5th (7th latest). Told to call office Monday to get exact weight (over/under possible)
5. Left message after being cut off on hold Monday but Never received call back.
6. Called 2SM few times with no reply to see what time on 5th they would show. They eventually called and said sorry but you will have items by June 14th at the latest (did not know where belonging were exacltly) Told they would call 48 hrs before to confirm date but definitly by June 14th.
7. Heard nothing from company. No calls to say were/when would get belongings. Sleeping on floor and eating with plastic, etc.
8. Left messages and called, cut off, etc. June 12th, 13th, 14th. NO REPLIES JUST KEPT IGNORING OUR CALLS AND PLEAS FOR INFORMATION.
9. Called on June 15th, put on hold, cut off, told to call back, I then said I would not leave any more unanswered messages that I would just keep calling back every hour until someone spoke with me. Told to call Bret in 30 minutes as "manager" Jon would not help me that Brett was the "one" and Jon just too busy on another call.
10. Called Bret who decided that screaming at me and call me a liar that they never promised the 5th. Would not let me finish a sentence, "said he was linking us to Jon (that HAD promised the 14th) then after he finished just plane SCREAMING at me to read the contract (infering I was an idiot as well as a liar) that they had 14 days he said for my husband whom had been given these dates to "f'ing" call him and hung up (if he read the contract or let me finish a sentence he would have seen it was the 15th and even that second promised time was up accoding to the contract and not just the "liar" on the phone.
11. Bret then call my husband and started cursing and swearing and when asked who this was and which office was calling he replied "what are you going to do big boy come to Toronto and fight me? " He then screamed loud enough for clients to hear him calling my husband a f'in Prick/ f'in a'hole/ etc. and then said he was charging another $600. When told we did not owe and would not pay. He started swearing AGAIN and said he would hold items outside home until we paid the f'in total. My husband then hung up as Bret the "owner/manager" continued his swearing tyrade.
12. Given more and more false delivery dates, told truck broke down, then problem with another client, then when we took a day off they called an hour after arrival time to say the truck was yet again broken. What they were doing was filling the truck on their was from Toronto to western canada to maximize their profit and to hell with the waiting customer.
13. Finally recieved belongings 21 days late and items held outside home until we paid the extortion money, and yes, items were damaged but less since we packed them ourselves (practically tornado proof but still they managed)
14. Presently filing complaints with BBB and Ministry of Gov't services. 2SM are now changing their story, saying we were the problem, never gave dates and that we harrassed them, pretty much what I would expect from them given their phone etiquette and business ethics to date.
DO YOURSELF THE BIGGEST FAVOR AND DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY LIE SWEAR AND SCAM PEOPLE FOR A LIVING AND THERE IS NO REAL REGULATORY BODY TO STOP THEM. THERE ARE COMPLAINTS AT EVERY BBB CANADA WIDE (and on line). RUN RUN RUN IF THEY MAKE YOU AN OFFER AND WARN YOUR FRIENDS.
It's better to lose a deposit than to deal with 2 big psychos. They know you will lose more by returning to Province to go to small claims court so you have more to lose by staying with them.
