The Allied Network
Another one bites the dust

For the past few weeks I have been soliciting opinions about the Allied Network. I have yet to hear a positive comment about the service. At least 20 people have come forward to me with dissatisfaction. However many are reluctant to make a claim because they are embarrassed.

Day after day, month after month, someone goes to 5 Clarence, gets buzzed in, is made to wait, and then fill in a long list of personal questions peering at two fat binders of weddings. Like you, like me, they are buying hope. And they will be made to wait another 4-6 weeks whiile the matching department, who has never met you, finds a suitable date- when you'd have better luck at a tractor pull (at least that's fun!)

It's not that we are particularly fussy. I wanted a date with a 1. man who 2. had a degree. I was introduced to a totally manic "surgeon" who did 85% of the talking. His terms included participation in high risk sports. He wanted to go to an event nearby and needed a decision right away "because the tickets are expensive."

I had no idea about any of this when I went there. But there has been an investigative journalism report (CBC Marketplace) articles (Mcleans) various blogs, lawsuits, and most recently talk of a class action suit. If I or anyone else had known about these things, I/we could have saved hundreds, even thousands of dollars.

As good citizens it is up to us to make a difference. No one should be ripped off again by the Allied Network. We have a right to our money back or at the very least to seek restitution. We also have a right to anonymity and to self respect. Lawyers, the media, and asinine postings won't make a difference. Better Business Bureau, my MP and all the other hot air balloons don't care.

However the Federal Government has taken an interest (see below).

I have already written to them, which is fine. But if another person does, it adds credibility. If five do, it's an issue. YOUR CORRESPONDENCE WITH THEM MAKES A DIFFERENCE. So take 5 - and let them know. It's better than doing nothing, which is exactly what THE ALLIED NETWORK is counting on. You have a chance to be heard, perhaps get refunded - and you may be sparing the next person a lot of pain.

thank you.
