I received a letter in the mail congradulating me that I was picked to represent their company as a secret shopper. I received a assignment letter a check for $985.00 and a customer service evaluation tool and a Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. Like all the other complaints that I read I had to call a number which I was instructed to deposit the check and if there were going to be a hold on the check to call back and let them know the length of the hold and then I would start my assingment. Well after going to the bank and a bank manager signed off on the check I called the next morning. Off to my assignmenet I went. JC Pennys Walmart and Moneygram. Didn't seem unresonable. I have grown kids in retail that have had secret shoppers at their establishments all the time and never really thought up to this point that there was anything wrong. After completing my assingment I was instructed to call with money gram receipt number and fax all documentation. I did so and about a week later, BANG!!
I go to withdrawal money out of my checking account, I deposited the secret shopper check into my savings account, oh wow I thought I was smart, to put gas in my car and I can't take any money out. With it being Saturday and the banks are closed I call the 800# of my bank to see what is going on and I automaticly get sent straight to a live person. Well this live person said that my account has been frozen due to my conterfeiting activities in my account. Well you don't know me but I said a few choice words. Not directing them to her but I was mad as all get out! She said that I would have to call a talk to the fraud departmnet on Tuesday, yes it was Memorial Weekend. I was in such a shock that I was speachless. And really her approach was I was guilty and had to prove my innocence. I understand that the bank doesn't know me from adam, after 5 years of loyalty but hay I guess I was just another fish in their sea.
Tuesday rolls around and now it is time to talk to the Deposit Fraud department. The clerk, that was my assumption on the other end of the form reading her 30 second commercial, said that I had conterfitted the check and my account was schedule to close in approximatly 12 days and there was no discussing this matter. I explained what had taken place the week before and she said that I am the account holder and that I fraudulently deposited a check that was conterfeit. Now I am sure there are alot of people that are out there doing this but for the love of goodness when you are telling them you would like to bring in all the documentation to show that this is not the case and all she can say is you are responsible for your deposits. I was scammed by this supposed business. I felt like I had been scammed by the bank too. At least she could have given me the respect to fax all said documetments. First I was taken by this company now the bank. Great!!!
I am going to talk with a bank manager and show the documentation that I have and I am trying to research the phone numbers and address so I can have more proof. I am totally shocked with the banks actions. I do not want my account closed but will evnetually get passed that what I cannot get passed is that the bank. We should be working together not against each other. I am calling the State Attorney General Office and filing a report with my state US Secret Service Field Office, and any other company that will listen to my story. I understand the bank has a right to protect themselves but when there is legitamate people out there that being scammed left and right and they show such proof to the banks they need to step off the high horse and assist us.
