I received a letter in the mail stating I had one some lottery and they had enclosed a check for $4, 680.23 to cover my taxes on the winnings.
The check amazingly cleared my bank in one day. They then required me to send $4, 500 of it back to a Wilson York at an address in Houston, Texas. The address in Houston turned out to be Houston Police Department Headquarters (very strange)... The person at the front desk said a Wilson York did not even exist!!! I talked to their fraud unit and they told me to call my local police to report the fraud.
I did talk to the local police and they told me that without a shadow of a doubt the original check will be sent back as a bad check... or a bad account. I called the bank it was written on in Memphis, and sure enough, it was not a real account.
Whatever you do, do not believe this scam artist. He is Jamaican and will charm you with his accent. He is a phony and the check will eventually be returned. Do not send this person any money to cover winnings. The fraud unit informed me that lotter winnings are free, no money is required up front.
