Last week I received a letter in the mail informing me that I was a winner of the "Pacific Products Contest", in category 'C', entitling me to a lump-sum payment of $99, 000. Enclosed was a Wachovia-drawn check in the amount of $4882 to "assist" with "... legal, insurance and processing fees". I was to call one of the "agents" (Gary James: 778-863-8222) to activate the check after depositing it.
Admittedly, I felt a little uneasy about the whole thing. But depositing a $4882 check can't hurt, right...?!?! If it bounces, what have I lost...?
After depositing the check, I waited a few days and it seemed like the check cleared. I was elated. I paid the $2, 900 in "processing fees", withdrawing the money from the checking account into which I had deposited the $4882 check. Well, ..., the $4882 check did not clear! I called those scam-artists letting them know what had happened. They acted surprised, and told me that they needed to check with their "financial department". It would take two weeks for the $4882 check to be re-posted to my account...! When I expressed frustration (at this point I knew I had been taken) and demanded to talk to their "financial department", they hung up... there is no "financial department" Sherlock. Attempts to contact them again has been unsuccessful.
Other "agents" of this outfit are "Edna King" and "Lina Sanchez". An additional phone number they provide is 866-254-9609 ext 251.
I wrote this report to hopefully help protect other people. In these financially precarious times we are living in, it is an outrage that hard working, honest citizens continue to fall victim to such unscrupulous scum, and that the legal system for which we pay horrendous taxes to, does not have the ability and/or will-power to bring these societal rejects to swift and harsh justice.
By education, I am a physicist and software engineer. The technology and mental ingenuity of people exist to put systems and checks and balances in place that would prevent such things from happening.
Let's do something about this!!
