Official looking letter and checks received that I had won $10, 220.17 in a sweepstakes bonanza give-away! In accordance with the dispersement policy, the prize winner is suppose to get a surety bond certificate in order to cash the winning check. The second check for $1, 580.25 for this supposed bond certificate is also enclosed, along with an official looking form to fill out for Bardens Exchange Bureau. Instructions tell you to call Stacey Wells at this bureau (1-306-351-5890) for "further instructions, clarification, and most importantly deactivating the financial block on your enclosed winning."
To put a sense of urgency on things, in small red print, the letter also states that winnings not claimed by a certain date will be automatically deemed unclaimed and forwarded to a charity dept.
I noticed similar scams posted online, so there are apparently many variations of this. The Bardens Exhange Bureau is listed as being at: 1198 Caribou St W, Moose Jaw SK S6H 2L8 (tel: 306-880-0426, fax: 306-880-8351)
