I was sent a check for $3500.00 and a letter stating that I won a lottery from the Power House Contest. The letter informed me that the $3500.oo was deducted from my full entitlement which is 150, 000. My instructions were to keep the winning numbers a secret and to deposit the check and then contact Lisa Johnson or Henry Olga for further instructions. The letter also explained that the 3500 would be used for a certificate of clearance and insurance. The check looked so real that I rushed to the bank to deposit it. I had my banker call to verify funds on the check and it was valid.
Check was deposited and I called the number provided (604) 783-5171, Henry told me to take $2, 950.00 to the western union and money gram it to him. I started asking questions and Henry began to get irritated, he then hung up the phone. I will have to pay fees to my bank for stop payment, insufficient funds, and a bad check. Lesson well learned. Had I went along with the money gram sceme, I would have owed the fees and $2, 950. red flag: check with no stub.
