Google Crawler not indexing XML correctly SEO

I have a huge issue with Google and Google-bot not indexing well formatted XML (FTML). Even with out the html doc type declared, Google will still assume html and not treat the file/page as xml. It seems that when there is an html node, Google will no longer parse the page as formatted XML.
