I became pregnant between relationships. I was beyond stressed not knowing who the biological father of my unborn child was. My ob/gyn advised me that amnio and cvs were out of the question for the risk was to great and she was unsure of any other methods. I did my research only to find Genetest COrporation in my search for non invasion paternity testing repeatedly.
I read the website over and over, called the 877 number to ask questions. The man answered the phone hello as if he were in the comforts of his own home. but seemed to know what he was talking about while answering questions from someone who knows nothing about the sciences of dna.
The fees for testing were high, but i felt if they could give me answers were well worth the money. I sent 100 for the test kit to be sent to me. The kit contained two tubes and 3 cotton swabs. I was sent to a local women in a small office to have blood drawn and given back to me. I then was to cotten swab the fathers cheek and send the kit back along with an additional 1025.00. so i did... only to get the run around for weeks on the result of my test. i finally recieved an excusion when the guy called to give me results.
He expalined to me that the test could be wrong if there are previous pregnancies (i have a 4 year old and lost a pregnancy before). he explained that the fetal blood cells can live in the mothers body for 10 yrs.
i was upset he didn't share this info before i paid the 1100 dollars. but he offered me a free test after my son was born.
I called when my son was born to have the free test done. thinking they were gonna send me a kit agian, i was a lil weary to his response of using regular household q-tips. but i sent them in as instructed after swabbing my newborns cheek.
my son is now 6 months old and i called to get the same results as the first test. as i ask questions to understand the test was done. the guy accused me of contaminating the test myself and told me that if i am unsure of the results i should pay a different company to retest him and compare the results. who unprofesional?
after learning of others having simular results from genetest corporation i have done some research and tried to find answers. some are helpful and some are not. right now i am fianacially unable to give my son a retest but will definitly do so as soon as i can. and this time i will do it locally! i will keep updates. BUT i do believe that genetest is a rip off and unprofessional. they have done nothing but mess with the emotions and fears of my sons future.
