I worked for Joe Ricupero from February 2007 to May 2008. I left his employ simply because he wasn't paying my wages. When I left in May 2008 he owed me in excess of $8500 in back wages.
In May Joe met with my parents to try to come to some agreement on how these monies would be paid. Joe signed a letter agreeing that he owed me $8532 in back wages and in the letter he agreed to pay me these monies in installments of no less that $500 per week. Joe left post dated cheques with my parents totalling $ 5150 with a view to leaving further cheques when these had been honoured.
Needless to say they have not. I will confirm that since May I have been able to cash some of the cheques totalling $3254 which leaves a balance owed of $5278.
The last cheque cashed was on the 21st June and despite constant promises from Joe no further monies have been forthcoming. As late as yesterday (1st August) Joe said I could cash another cheque but when I went to his bank I was turned away empty handed as there was no money in the account.
As you can imagine I am totally fed up with the situation. So much so, that I have filed papers with the Ministry of Labour for a claim for unpaid wages and they will be contacting Joe in due course. Fortunately my mother is a very good record keeper and has sent them all the evidence they need.
It's a shame, I liked Joe a lot and worked hard for him. If the pay situation had been resolved I am sure I would still be working for him now.
On a brighter note, I am pleased to say that I have now found another job with a very reputable firm and I hope it will be a long alliance.
