Q. Is everything in your shop local? A: At Workshop, everything is handmade by women. We have over 125 women who sell their collections in our shop "“ we are soooo lucky to have such a large number of amazing and talented women making such beautiful things! We always keep the shop at least half local, meaning made in Ottawa. The shop is about 95% made in Canada too. We made a few exceptions (the 5%) for three collections that are super cute, certified fair trade, and made overseas by women. It s a great mix of things "“ enjoy! Q: Since a lot of designers you carry only have a few pieces, what if you don t have my size? A: Most of our designers are happy to make us another piece for a customer. We have a giant blue binder at the shop called our "wish list". If we don t have the size you need, just ask us and we ll put you on the wish list, contact the designer and try to get it in for you. This doesn t always work because many of our designers work with reclaimed and vintage material, but it s worth a try! Q: How do I find out what classes you are offering? A: We hold a lot of classes at the shop. In the past we have had knitting, sewing, jewellery-making, felting, yarn spinning and silk painting. The best way to find out about upcoming classes is to sign up for our e-mail list. You can do it in the shop or on our website. We will send out an e-mail when we are offering classes, then make sure you book right away "“ our classes fill up very quickly! Q: I hear you host events like shopping nights and evenings where designers show their new collections! How do I get information on that? A: We hold a lot of great events like that, at least 4 or 5 a year. The best way to find out about upcoming events is to sign up for our e-mail list. You can do it in the shop or on our website. You can also check out our blog. Christina keeps it updated with everything that is going on at Workshop. Q: I am a designer and I think my collection might be a good fit for Workshop. What should I do? A: You should definitely send us an e-mail and tell us about yourself! Remember to include a description of how you make your pieces, what materials you use, and anything else you think we would find interesting"¦and don t forgot to attach photos or a link to your website! Please remember that although we really love to receive submissions, we are only two people and although we do try our best, we can t guarantee a timely response, especially during the holiday season! Q: How often do you get new collections in? A: We literally get boxes every single week! We are very different from a traditional store that way: our designers (all 125 of them!) just pack stuff up and send it to us when they finish making it. This guarantees that every time you step into Workshop you will find something new. Some of our customers come in every week"¦and they never go away disappointed!
