I received a letter/certificate on which the heading line was BRITISH GAMING COMMISION. The misspelled commission was a tip off that this was a rip off.
It purported to be a winning certificate and included a check.
The body of the letter/certificate also had several English errors indicating it was written by a non-English speaker or someone with little formal education -- another tip off that this was a rip off.
I immediately went and searched the web for any reports on this item and lo and behold there were some.
The most important tip off that this was a rip off was an admonition "KEEP THIS AWARD FROM PUBLIC NOTICE UNTIL YOUR CLAIM HAS BEEN PROCESSED AND MONEY REMITTED TO YOUR ACCOUNT". Any legitimate lotto would welcome publicity.
I am going to bring this to the attention of the US Post Office b/c this is using the US postal system to commit fraud.
