Transitions That Work is a Life Skills program for Aboriginals. This program aims to get those trying to back on track and to be where they want to be in life. There is 8 weeks of life skills, 4 weeks of career planning, 6 weeks work experience and 2 weeks job search. Life skills involves several topics including inclusion, attending behaviors, brainstorming, giving a talk, anger management, feelings, and feedback. In career planning you will complete career and personal profiles and learn how to write an effective resume and cover letter, interviewing skills, networking, and accessing the hidden job market. You will also take computer training and learn beginner Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. There is then a work experience component where you get to work for an employer at their site and use your new skills. If you are not hired from your work experience host, you will go on to a supported job search where we will assist you to find a job. You may also go onto further education or training. Reality Wednesday Every Wednesday we bring in guest speakers to talk about the "real world". This includes topics such as Aboriginal awareness, addictions, landlord and tenant, AIDS, and drinking and driving. In addition we have other schools come in to discuss their programs and employers to discuss their openings and expectations. Our clients find Reality Wednesday sessions to be very beneficial and informative. Cost Funding is provided through Student Finance grants for those who qualify Duration 20 weeks, 8 weeks life skills, 4 weeks career planning, 6 weeks work experience, 2 weeks supported job search Hours 9am "“ 4 pm Monday thru Friday with one hour for lunch.
