What kind of CAD programs do you use? Should we punch or laser cut our parts? Do you paint parts? Do you deliver? What kind of materials do you work with? What is "pre-painted" steel? How long have you been in business? Arrow Sheet Metal has been in business for 40 years. Arrow is a family run business with the present owner being the second generation. How large is your company? Our facility is 18,000 sq. ft. and we employ between 16 and 20 people. What services do you provide? Cad, laser, punching, bending, welding, sanding, sandblasting and assembly services. Why not just get the parts made overseas? Overseas production has its place, and is suitable for many applications. Domestic production is best if your parts fall into some of the following categories: a. Low volume b. You want to work with someone who can help you develop your parts c. Lead times are short d. Your parts are large relative to their cost. In this case shipping cost will be an issue. e. You have "just in time" or a "lean" production process where you do not want to bring in a container load, but want smaller weekly deliveries. What kind of CAD programs do you use? We use Solid Works and AutoCAD for part development, SMP to program our punch, and BYSOFT to program the laser machine. Should we punch or laser cut our parts? There is no absolute answer to this question. The process of choice depends of various issues including: a. Thickness b. Type of material c. How hole intensive is the part? Hole intensive parts are often more cost effective in punching machines. d. Shape of the outside contour of the part e. Finishing requirements f. Volume Do you paint parts? We do not paint in house, but rather shop out those services to local companies who specialize in painting. Painting is highly involved trade and is more difficult than it looks. Painters must consider many issues such as part cleaning, paint adhesion, hardness, gloss level, powder vs. liquid applications, and environmental laws. We work with various paint shops in the Toronto area since most specialize in certain applications. Do you deliver? Yes. We have a 22 box truck for local deliveries. Having our own truck allows us to give better customer service. If a customer is not local to us, we use a local courier service, or a transport company. What kind of materials do you work with? We predominately work with CRS, aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized and pre-painted steel. Our machinery will handle copper, brass, and the more exotic grades of materials, but our present customer base does not require it. What is "pre-painted" steel? Pre-painted steel is a sheet of steel which has been painted at the steel factory. Common applications are for the outside of buildings.
