The official opening of our new long-term care facility took place in November of 2004. This ultra modern facility has been built with the latest concepts and technology available to permit the provision of the best care possible to our long-term care residents. Our history goes back to 1953 when a committee was formed from representatives of United Mennonite congregations in the Niagara Region, as well as from Waterloo and Toronto to address the increasing awareness of the need for a housing program for the elderly among the constituent congregations. Under the leadership of the Ontario Women in Mission, the committee registered the "United Mennonite Home for the Aged" under the Charitable Homes Act. On August 21, 1955, the first "United Mennonite Home for the Aged" was dedicated. Today the record speaks for itself! The United Mennonite Home (now simply called "The Home") in Vineland has provided quality living accommodations and compassionate care to seniors for over 50 years. In that time, UMH has been home to more than 800 residents, and touched the lives of countless others - friends and family members who know and appreciate the valuable role UMH plays in their community. United Mennonite Home is a Christian not-for-profit, charitable organization. The purpose of the Home is to provide professional care with compassion. The objective is realized by treating its residents with dignity and respect, thereby fulfilling the mandate to "do unto others as you would have others do unto you". The following photos are taken from our new Home. The Board of Directors that oversees the operation of the Home as well as the Orchard View Apartments and Vineland Park Estates, is composed of representatives of the sponsoring churches. It is the goal of the board and staff to provide comfortable and well maintained living accommodations; provide stimulating, complementary recreational programs with an emphasis on the spiritual, physical and social needs of all tenants.
