We were given a smoking room after reserving a non-smoking room. We checked in and dropped off our luggage then headed out for site-seeing. We returned late (after 2:00 am) and went directly to sleep. About an hour later one of the children awoke with a sore-throat.
Soon afterward we all started getting sore throats, runny noses, and watery eyes but eventually fell back to sleep.
Upon waking up the next morning, we discovered several ashtrays in the drawers of the desk and night stand. We now realized why we all felt so lousy (being we are all non-smokiers).
We also realized why there was such a strong smell of a deodorizing/air freshner in the hallway and room upon the placement of our bags the night before. Being we only stopped in the room for less than 5 minutes, we just thought the hotel wanted to smell/appear clean.
Since we only stayed one night, there was not much to do but complain at the front desk about being given a smoking room when, in fact our paperwork showed that we reserved a non-smoking room.
Upon checkout we were not given any discount nor apology for the problem. Actually, we were treated like we were the ones that caused the problem. I left after making the statement that I would write a letter to the management.
After sending the letter asking for a credit for the stay, the Fallsview Plaza Hotel did not offer any credit, but only a 30% discount coupon good toward our next stay.
Well, they could'nt get our first stay right... we have no intentions of staying there a second time. We only want a credit or partial credit toward the night of this occurance, not a discounted rate on a future stay.
I hope this will help others to realize that you need to check everything out before you trust any company to actually give you what you paid them to give you.
I am very disappointed in the way the hotel handled this situation.
