Baja Kayak Adventure Tours Limited is based out of Loreto, which is a small coastal community 950 kilometers south of the US border on the Sea of Cortez. Once the capital of the Spanish-ruled state of California, it is the oldest settlement in Baja and is now a quiet, pleasant town. We are a new company emerging from Gabriola Cycle and Kayaks ( www.gck.ca ) eighteen successful years in Baja Mexico. Two of the experienced guides (Canadian and Mexican) and their families are now continuing with the same great trips . Utilizing the same participative philosophy, we will maintain our emphasis on client service and safety. The guides are trained, certified and experienced to handle a range of experience levels from beginners to advanced paddlers. Instruction for beginners and technical advice for advanced paddlers can be provided. On each trip the guides are empowering you through ‘experience and exposure’ enabling you to leave with new skills gained through adventure-based learning. Baja Kayak Adventure Tours Limited is committed to supporting local businesses and services as well as contributing to the conservation and sustainability of the Baja environment. We particularly respect and are keen to support other locally owned and operated eco-outfitters such as fishing, dive (scuba/snorkel) and mountain bike tour operators. We invite healthy, independent, and fun loving people to join us in all aspects of the kayak adventure - including daily trip planning and meal preparation. We describe ourselves as outfitters , and are not a fully catered operation. Meals are assigned and each paddler has 2-3 meals to prepare for the group during the trip. This makes for lots of fun and the guides can help with meal planning when you meet them to shop on Day 0, before the trip begins. You buy the ingredients for those assigned meals and carry them in your kayak, ready to go when its your turn. Our primary role is to outfit your trip, reduce risk, look after navigation and support, and enrich the group experience. Our guides have spent many seasons exploring the wilderness of Baja (and British Columbia) and have strong interests in local natural history and the ecology of the surrounding marine park area. A reference library of local Baja information and natural history accompanies every tour.
