Dr. Rix was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He is married to a Calgarian and has two teenage daughters. Prior to becoming a dentist, Dr. Rix worked as a professional civil engineer in Calgary where he was responsible for the construction of offices, shopping centers, and other structures such as the LRT bridges over Deerfoot Trail. His interest in a caring environment and more challenging work, led him to study dentistry at the University of Alberta where he graduated with distinction. After three years work as a general dentist, Dr. Rix completed the 33 month Graduate Orthodontics Program obtaining a Masters of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics at the University of Western Ontario in London. Dr. Rix subsequently published two articles related to his thesis about the strengths of fluoride release of orthodontic adhesives in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Following graduation, Dr. Rix served as the Interim Clinic Director of the Graduate Orthodontic Program. He then worked with two orthodontic practices in London, Ontario prior to returning home to Calgary.
