"My job is to create a space where it is safe enough to look at where you are, and to help you find where you want to go." I work with individuals and couples, both short-term counselling and in-depth, long-term therapy. Typically, people show up for a counselling appointment with a problem. Sometimes once the problem is dealt with they move on, other times, the experience of therapy opens up new doors, new challenges and exciting possibilities. It can also open up painful things but offers the opportunity for healing and growth. If you talk the talk then you better walk the walk. In my adult life I have done two long stints of my own counseling, five years of bioenergetic therapy and later, another seven years of traditional psychotherapy. As well, I participate in an ongoing men s therapy/support group that I joined in 1975. This work continues to lead me to into fresh directions and allows me to deepen my understanding of who I am. After graduating from the University of Victoria I started working with special needs children, and their families. I took a break from that work and stayed home for a couple of years to be the main caregiver of our second baby. Thoroughly exhausted, I returned to the paid work force as part of the team that opened Jack Ledger House in Victoria. In 1992, I transitioned into a full-time private practice and have been at it ever since. I see all ages of people from late adolescence to senior citizens. I m not here to judge. I m here to serve people in whatever capacity they need, and to the best of my abilities as a counsellor. I recognize and honour the courage it takes to begin the therapeutic process. As a witness to the unfolding of people s histories I am constantly amazed at their personal strength and resiliency when faced with difficult situations.
