Q. Will we lose control of our data if we use Baragar software? A. No. Not only does your District/Board have control of their data, they retain 100 % ownership of their data. Once the custom software is delivered there are import options in most of the products for unlimited data sets to be integrated into the software for consideration, manipulation and analysis. Q. How will Baragar software integrate with our District s current software and hardware? A. In most product offerings the software is delivered in a CD format and is loaded on to the cleint s PC. There is little to no integration involved. To date, there has never been a problem with integration. Q. How does Baragar handle; data conversions, schedule delays, integration of corporate applications to legacy systems, patch/fix management during implementation and sustainment? A. The software is provided on a CD, and will automatically install in its entirety on any computer running MS Windows. None of the issues listed above have created problems in previous implementations and should not be in new situations either. Any upgrades to the software do not require technical expertise but are implemented through hot links delivered to an established point person, within the district, in a secure email correspondence. Q. What is the frequency of major software upgrades? A. Depending on the product, the upgrades are completed either annually or throughout the year, and are automatically forwarded, FREE of charge via e-mail. Every District/Board can influence future modifications to the software. Please contact us for details. Q. What commitment is there that changes associated with legislation or reporting requirements are made to the product? A. Changes to legislation or reporting made by the Ministry will result in software development. We have never charged our customers for such changes; nor do we plan to. For example, our clients, in Ontario, who had Staff Allocator, had the ability to perform "what if" scenarios before the class size caps became legislation. Therefore, they were aware of the impact before legislation. Q. How is training delivered? A. Training methodology and materials: We have found that sending the software with installation instructions and providing 30 minutes of instruction, over the phone, to get the client started, is the best way for learning to begin. Once the client has had a week to "play" we provide "in classroom training". Some customers simply want an over the phone webex experience and are ready to go. Others want a face to face class room experience. We adapt to the customers needs. Format: From train-the-trainer, to customized training sessions, to live on line. Our training can take place in the District Office, or the Baragar office. Our customers typically pick up the phone when they begin a new project or for a refresher or if they have a simple question. We can answer most questions over the phone, and in some cases, using a webex site to solve more complicated issues. Q: How is the software maintained and supported? A. Support of the software is not dependant on the version and the District/Board will automatically be provided with the latest version as soon as the new version is developed. Q. How can a software development company understand the needs, requirements and issues of a School District/Board s planning, research and HR departments? A. Baragar s founder, Chuck Curteis, a past teacher and principal, was the Director of the Surrey School District Planning Department when it was the fastest growing District in Canada. Chuck spent 10 years working for Statistics Canada in the Department of Education. Three highly respected Educators act as an informal "Board of Advisors" to Baragar; Doug Jennings a past Superintendent of Schools for the Surrey School Board and current ERDI Canada Partner, Don Taylor a past Director General of Lester B. Pearson School Board and current consultant and Howard Holtman a past Chief Executive Officer of Assiniboia South School Division (now known as Pemina Trails School Division) and current consultant. Their valuable direction, insight and input is a testament to their continued interest and passion in the field of education and ultimately making a difference in the lives of students.
